Default Number made

Trying to figure out how many of the vehicles that were made with my configurations. Top left corner on build sheet it has job sequence #. Below that it has 001083 and below that in same box is 27-1083 with build date below it. Would i be correct in assuming that this vehicle is 27 of 1083 built? Also the trans is code M21 4 speed. What does that stand for?
Thanks for the help. Been trying to read a lot. lol

Ok. Found out that the M21 stands for Muncie short throw 4 speed. M22 is the infamous "rock crusher" trans. M21 is supposedly as good without the noise that the rock crusher made and was put in high hp applications also. Got sub frame powder coated. Now have upper and lower control arms apart, bushings and ball joints out ready to powder coat.

Nope, an M21 or M20 is equal in strength, but with different ratios. Neither is as strong as the M22 Rock Crusher.

As far as M21 and M22 go. Gm never changed the RPO. That means that long after they stopped putting Muncie's in the cars, they were still calling them M21. You didn't mention what year your car is. So I would look at the tranny to find out what it is, not a piece of paper.

Sorry no, you wouldn't be correct in assuming that. That's a job number, but can't tell you what 27- stands for. Look at it logically, the cars were built both regular production, and special order (buyers request). GM wouldn't know the total number of any given option until the end of the model year run. So that number can't be a "# of #" series designation, unless they employed a gypsy using a crystal ball in the office. Also, I'm aware of no database that tells what option combinations were installed on our cars.

Thanks for the help. I checked on the trans visually and it says Borg Warner on the trans and has the 9 bolt cover so i guess that throws out the M21 code on the build sheet. lol

No that's what GM used for the RPO on later cars. Regular Production Order

RPO's tell the ***. line guys what to install on the car as it moves down the line. Examples are Z28, LQ9, L88. I'm sure you may recognize these.

Then there were COPO's Central Office Production Order
