newer altenator in 2nd gen...wiring?
I've got GMPP's serpentine kit on my first gen 350. This relocated the altenator to the drivers side and the compressor to the passenger side. Got the associated plumbing issues fixed but now have question's about connecting the altenator to my wire harness. (This kit came with a newer model altenator) Somebody with a 3rd gen camaro may be able to help...I think that's when this front end set-up showed up. Anyway, here's the difference:
Old alt- One wire to the stud at back of alt and a two blade connector with a large gauge red wire and a smaller gauge brown wire.
New alt- Still has stud at back of alt but has a four wire plug. The wires coming off the plug are different gauges but they're all white and not labeled.
Additional info: Had factory amp (volt?) meter before...now has covans panel with Autometer amp meter.
How do I connect it to my original harness?
I also have a problem with the stud mount (pretty sure that's my battery wire connection) Anyway, the tall valve covers interfere with that mount. I'd have to remove the covers to access it. I've installed an aluminum 'extender' to alleviate this problem. You can see it if you look close at the photo. I believe that aluminum tab will be 'hot' when I put the jumper wire on reconnect everything. If it will be hot, how should I insulate it? Wrap it? Dip it in rubber coating like you use on the handles of electrical tools?
Thanks for any assistance!
Photo's attached....might not help but I still think the set-up looks cool on the front of the motor!

I think if I'm following you you'll need to get a three wire to one wire conversion kit. Summit has them...
It might not be what you're looking for but maybe looking at their instructions can help. Dunno...

Man...I buy 90% of my parts from summit and didn't even think of looking there. They have an adaptor just for this situation.
Thanks kyphur.
