I know this has been argued for a while now, i just cant make up my mind. I am about to pull the tired 305 out of my 79. Should I go clasic 350 with a carb, or new school. I have the opportunity to buy a recently rebuilt LT1 with cpu wiring and trans for a good price. Thoughts?
If it helps my car is a driver. No drag strip. But i want good performance. mabey 330 hp

if you can get an lt1 and all of the goodies for a good price i would go with that if your not trying to take it down the strip you will be happy with the performance of the lt1

It depends on your mechanical talents, and your budget. If you've got the money, talent, and budget to do the LT1, I'd go that route. The wiring harness, trans, etc. are a good start towards installation, but you will need some adpating to incorporate it into your Camaro, so a little more skills and some parts to complete the engine and trans swap.
I personally like either direction, so if it were me I'd go with the best I could handle.

i would go with the 350 carb, thats what i have inplace of the 305 that came in my 78 and she has alot of *****, and if it is ur driver like mine is, it isnt THAT bad on gas if you drive it nicely and if its a stick. also, me having only moderate mechanical skills, the 350 is MUCH easier to work on, and parts are pretty cheap and plentiful lol
