Default New here and I really would like your opinion! Transmission Fluid

Let's start with a short background since I'm new here....

My mom bought a 1979 Camaro back in Germany in '84...I got him in 2009 and took him with me here to the US in 2010. We live in KY now but are about to move to TX soon.

Now to my baby..
1979 Camaro Berlinetta, 305 5.0L, TH350 tranny, so everything is still original beside the paint. 79,150 miles.

Ok so since I got the car we had to fix and sure maintain a few things because he has been sitting in the garage for around 10 years.
Now it's time for me to get new fluid into the tranny.
Dexron II is original, now the question is... switch to synthetic (VI) or not?
I'm worried that it will hurt more than it does good. Generally synthetic is better sure but also in a car that is over 30 years and doesn't have the seals for a "thin" fluid like that?

What do you guys think? What do you use?

Thanks

Agree, don't use a synthetic, you're right about the early tranny seals.

Welcome to the forum!
I wouldn't use synthetic trans fluid, even if it was a new rebuild. Tranny fluid is just right the way it is, and I see no reason to use synthetic. I use Dexron, and never had problems related to fluid.

Thanks to you all! Always good to hear other opinions and even a better feeling if we all agree.
Getting it done on Monday, did the differential today.

Thanks again!
