Default Need Help please!!!!!!!!!!

I need help to figure out why my car is pushing so much rpm's this is what i got a 1970 CHEVY BIG BLOCK 454 CAMARO RALLY SPORT
590 HORSEPOWER ENGINE, 4 SPEED, RADIO DELETE.
454 C.I.D. 10:1 COMPRESSION, COMP.CAM, GEAR DRIVEN, HEADS PORTED AND POLISHED, 2.19 INTAKE VALVES, 1.88 EXHAUST VALVES, HOLLY 850 D.P., FULL 3" EXHAUST SYSTEM, I DON'T KNOW THE BRAND NAME OF HEADERS,I THINKTHEY HAVE BEEN COATED. THEWHEEL WELLS BACK IS CHROME. IT HAS A CENTERLINE CLUTCH. IT HAS A RICHMOND 4 SPEED, 2.88 1ST. GEAR. 12 BOLT G.M. POSI WITH 3.73 GEARS, AND MOSHER AXLES. THE MSD WAS TAKEN OUT OF CAR SINCE PICS WERE MADE, AND A NEW HEI DIST. WAS INSTALLED. THE COMPLETE RESTORATION WAS DONE IN 2000 AND ONLY HAS LESS THAN 3000 PUT ON THE CAMARO SINCE THEN.It also has a slide a link traction system. The rpm gauge goes up to 7000 but redlines at 5000 but i red line it in 4th gear at like 70 mph.Now if u start out in first and give it about a half throttle it breaks loose in second at 30 mph and give it some gas it brakes loose the same in 3rd at about 50 mph but if your in fourth at about 60-70 and give it half throttle it breaks loose again.I think this is a low rpm gauge right?I just want to know why i redline at like 70 mph at 5000rpm is that bad for the car dont most tacks go to 10 also any info on this slide a link traction system would be greatly appricated

Your engine has to much power I have a 350 that will be better if you want to trade. Just kidding either your tach is screwed up or you have a 5.XX:1 rear end gears. I think you can jack it up mark a tire and the driveshaft count the revolutions in relation to one full turn of the tire to get you in the ballpark. To be sure you would pull the cover off the rear and count the teeth of the pinion and ring gear and convert.

good point griff.jack it up,turn the tire 1 full turn and count how many turns the driveshaft makes.3:73's would make about 3 3/4 turns.you probably got 5:83's (LOL)

Does it have small rear tires? They would need to rotate more thus making the drive shaft rotate more and in the end making the engine rotate more.

The tires will make some difference but not that much. Does is rev up real fast in first gear kind of remind you of a 4X4 truck in low range?
