Default My new project and first post!

Hi everyone. I'm 37 and thought I would relive my youth and buy another Camaro. This is my 6th 2nd gen. I've had a 73(bought it for the motor only. It had a 402 BBC in that went in my 79 RS), 78 LT, 3 79 berlinettas, 79 RS.

Pictured is my 79 berlinetta that was abondoned! I picked it up yesterday. It had to of sat outside with the windows down for years. The underneath, floor pans, and that panel behind the bumper are surprisingly solid! All body work is just cut and patch except the dreaded area in the drivers door jamb where the door striker is. It's got the 130 mph speedo and all the gauges. The car has a 350 4 bbl. I turned it over by hand. I haven't tried to start it yet but plan to tomorrow. Looking for a hood, front fenders, pass door, and interior parts. Needs front glass too. I got the car for $250.

Is the best way to fix the door jamb to find a donor car and sawzall that part out? or can you just buy a sheet metal patch panel. I'm an excellent welder so I'm not scared to cut stuff apart, lol.

The plan with this car is to maintain the tan interior, paint the body 69 hugger orange with chrome trim all blacked out and torq thrust d wheels. Looking at 400 to 450 hp no nitrous. Ford 9" with 4.11 gears and a healthy TH350 with around 3000 stall. Can't wait!!

Where you located? I've got a pretty clean hood with a fiberglass L88 cowl on it. It's white to match your car! I had a boo boo, but the hood didn't get hurt at all.
You can't go wrong starting at $250! Great find!

Thanks, but I'm not a big fan of the L-88. I'm near Des Moines, Iowa

i would like to say beautiful car with alot of potential. i just picked up a 78 Camaro RS and LOVE it, it needs alot of work, but it is a driving project...well driving until the flywheel got chewed up by a 31yr old starter dying lol. if you're looking for new door panels and things i saw a company at a local swap meet that sells them for relativly cheap, i believe it was Thegroundup.com, i am not sure though.

Well this car sat with the hood off and the air cleaner gone for awhile. Don't know how long. I drained the oil/water from the pan. Probably about 6 quarts of water, eck!! Got the battery charged up and hook wires to the starter(car was abandoned, no keys), and voila!!, it turned right over and I didn't hear any strange noises. Going to try to fire it today. If it don't knock, I'll be happy.

There's going to be more water inside that engine than what you drained out! Might even be rust inside too. If you do get it fired up don't run it long without shutting it off and draining the oil and changing the filter again! (I assume you changed the filter already!)
Hope you drained the gas tank to, or that you're using a hose into a clean fuel supply to feed the engine temporarily. A new fuel filter is a must too, as over years of sitting the fuel lines will turn to varnish inside and it will break loose when you put new gas in, only to plug up your carb within minutes!
Good luck, and I hope to hear good news about it running again!

It fired and ran a little with no engine noise, so I'm happy.
