My Dad's 74
Hey guys, sorry I'm new to the forum so I'm not 100% sure if this is where I should be posting this. This is my dad's 74, I'm posting it up because my dad is looking into selling it so I thought I'd do a little poking around on the computer before he goes full tilt on selling it. I guess my main reason is I wanna get a sense for how popular or rather (appealing) this year is to other guys at present day. I've been talking with my dad about what he thinks the car is worth and hes not quite sure so I thought I'd post it up here and see what you guys have to say. He said he got it appraised for 22K(CAN) awhile back, I'm thinking 7 or more years ago. Now I know some of you may think that that's a bit steep, and that is exactly my point, my father and I don't know anymore whats reasonable anymore when it comes to the car. So if you guys could give us your thoughts that would be great.
I don't have all the specs for the car at the moment, I'm getting my dad to write it all down, so I might post that up later, but for now first impressions would be great!

Ooh, my eyes hurt now! 70's flash-back!!
Did the person who painted the car have a lot of old paint to get rid of?
That's going to be tough to call for a couple of reasons. One, that style is the less desirable one of the second gens, no offense. Still decent, but not as popular by demand. Second, that paint job is going to make it harder to sell. You have to find "just the right person" who likes it the same as you do. Otherwise, someone may like the car and what it has to offer, except for the paint job, but will be thinking "repaint" and the cost.

eh, I'm not so worried about the body style (I quite like the '74s) as I am that paint... Really, there's going to be VERY few people who will want that paint job so few will pay much for it... Got a nice motor and everything in it though, so you may get $10-15k for it... the paint is really killing it...
It's nice, but the paint job and the interior is really killing it for me. W/o the car specs it's hard to say what this is worth, but so far it's not looking so great.... You'll be hard pressed to sell any '74 for 22k, and I don't see this one come close - at least for me, anyway.
I've seen some 74's sell for 25k but they were in tip-top stock condition with all matching numbers and the orignal d88 stripes (ugh, I hate those) on them. Mine had the D88 stripes originally but the previous owner did away with them on the last paint job. Speaking of paint jobs I think that's what's going to bring the price down. The car is definantly a really nice mechanical job but the paint and interior are pretty bad, no offense. You could spend a lot just restoring those or just making the paint and interior look more like the stock interior from the days of yore.

That one there is a Z28 with the D88 striping and is pretty nice. That's what my car originally looked like. Other factors can bring up the price like if it's a Z28 Type LT, if it's all matching numbers, etc. Find out some more stats from your dad about the car's history and maybe you can use them as selling points.
