Default More Cam Help

Hey guys i appreciate all the help in my last post but now ive got another problem. Let me first just verify THIS IS NOT A RACE CAR!!! I want a car that sounds bad as H*** but it doesnt have to be fast at all for reasons that i cannot mention. <yes its already fast enough... says the cops> so i had my mind made up on a Comp Cams Magnum Cam- 270 duration and .470 lift. and i called the local speed shop and the guy talked me into a Comp Cams High Energy cam- it has 268 duration and .454 lift but never told me that it wasnt a rough idle i read that it should just have a noticeable idle in a sbc from the jegs catalogue. does anyone have either of the cams or no anything about them i want to know how rough the high energy cam will be because if its not going to be rough enough then im going to take it back and get a magnum cam

I'm alittle confused, If it's not a race car, then why do you want a rough idle cam?

for some reason i have always be captivated by the sound of a crazy rough idle cam in a sbc and i have been building the car to sound really good. so the car is pretty fast but it wasnt built for all the parts to get the best performance its been built to sound the best.

454/260 is not going to be rough idling.it will sound better than stock.i would go with the 270 magnum.it might not hurt to go to a 280 magnum.

If you just want a rough idling cam get one with the longest duration and the smallest lobe seaparation angle you can find. Kreep the lift around 0.450" to keep things from breaking. And if your engine isn't built for this kind of cam, it will idle horribly, lope, spit, pop, and farth away until it reches around 2000 RPM. Run it a little rich, and it may even flame out of the exhaust.
