Went to the Wed. night cruise here at PIR dragstrip, and as I walked around with a couple friends I started seeing a huge number of 2nd Gen Camaros. They weren't all together, so I'm sure it wasn't planned. They were scattered all over amongst the over 1,000 cars there, but plenty of them.
Usually there's many more 1st gens, as they seem to be so popular, but without actually counting them we all decided there were many more 2nd gens. Mostly early 70-73 models as this cruise is all pre '74, but a few have what the cruise promoters call "significant changes" and they're allowed in. They're pretty strict about the pre '74 thing, but a nicely done, highly modified later car can get in with the custom changes they allow.
Was pretty neat anyway to see the 2nd gens being out in force and really get a lot of attention at a big gathering. Wish my suspension would have been done that day so I could have had it there too!

 

Sweet!!! I miss living in nor cal. there are hardly any good car shows in and around denver. Granted Bandimere is a lot more fun than sears point.

 

I think the 1st Gen cars are being priced out of the average Joe's price range. The 2nd Gen cars are still low enough that a high school kid could pick up one for around $1500. I think that with racing and crashes the 2nd Gen will eventaully go up in price.

 

You're most likely talking '74 and later 2nd Gens. Can't find any early 2nd Gens in that range around here that aren't wrecks.

 

It also has to do with age progression. Every dog has his day. :-)

 

You cant find any second gen's for $1500 around here anymore,unless they are totally gone from rust,most people around here are selling parts cars for at least that.

 

We are starting to come into our own. If I had any advise to anyone here that was undeniable it would be hang on to your car. In the next 5-10 years we are going to have the "new" thing. First gens have been done and redone. As stated priced right out of most guys price range, so now people are looking at our cars. Also any G body will be right behind us. They are the last rear drive full frame V8 car GM produced.

I too was amazed when power tour came though. Tons of second gens. All years and all conditions. There was 80ish from Year One with the 17" N90s on it that was lowered. Flawless for sure. Holley brought matching early seconds. Sensory over load.

 

Missed the Camaro show yesterday. It was a poker run and then a show afterwards, but my neighbor didn't want to go, so we ended up driving our Austins to another larger show. Guess the test run will have to wait until another day!
