ls1 in 1980???
i want to put an ls1 in my 80 camaro. what is in store for me. by the way the whole front end sheet metal and plastics are off. i wanted to replace with z28 fenders and my bumper was cracked. i wont be running ac at all. need a tranny too.
Fair amount of work to swap in a LS1, as the pan interferes with the crossmember, plus neeed custom mounts, and a late trans to adapt to it, along with new crossmember for trans too. You'll also need a computer to run the engine, and wiring harness desgined to adapt the computer to your car, unless you have the skills to adapt it yourself.
I believe there is another oil pan from possibly a truck engine(?) that might fit the LS1 and make for better clearance in a Camaro. They're a great engine, and the swap makes for a really nice driver, but ugly looking when you open the hood. Not much you can do to dress them up to look good with all the coils stuck on the valve covers.
