Default Lost in the numbers

My 78 was factory 305 but I was told it had a early 90's 350 vortec out of a truck. so here are the numbers:

Under valve cover: 14102193
End of cyl head: F1095

Engine code at front of motor under alt: K1029PHC
CJ7119711

What I come up with is 1995 350ci 1.94/1.5 valves with 65cc heads. Couldn't tell if it was a roller cam or not.
I've looked at so many sites with numbers I got cross eyed. lol

I've learned some of the vortecs are worth rebuilding and some are not.
Is this one worth rebuilding or should I look for another motor? I'm wanting a 350ci with around 350hp

Is this motor even a vortec or just a TBI that was in a truck? I I couldn't figure out much on the numbers on the motor in the picture.

Vortecs will have 8 intake bolts instead of 12. TBI heads have 12 like normal but the center 4 are at a slightly different angle. It should be Vortec being a 95'. It should also be a roller block. I see no reason not to build it. The average dude is never going to push a block to its limits with simple bolts on stuff. Most people only know what they heard. Have you ever seen/ heard of anyone breaking a block?

It's not a vortec engine or heads you have there. There were two different head casting numbers, yours are neither: Vortec Cylinder Heads
And the PHC suffix code makes it a 1988 350 TBI 195 h.p. truck engine: http://www.chevymania.com/partsid/suffixresults.cfm

Thanks 69. The PHC was something that I was unable to find. You're right I'm not wanting to push motor to limits just to 350hp. But at 195 horse I understand why my car seems gutless, ITS only 195hp with 2.42 gears. I bookmarked chevymania for future use, Thanks.

It's still a good motor to start with if your goal is 350 HP, and it may even be a 4 bolt main block having come from a truck. It's not a for sure thing, as some truck engines were 2 bolt mains, but with 350 HP goal even a 2 bolt main will easily reach that.
Are you planning a complete rebuild, or just performance upgrades and a rearend gear change? Those 2.42's will hurt the performance of even a fairly high output smallblock.

Yes on the gear change, 3.08 or 3.42, probably the 3.42's. If I go with this motor, I would completly go through it. If ya got it out of the car do it all, then no worries. It already has headers, edelbrock carb and manifold.

All the "new" replacement motors are 290hp or better. Your block is way good for 350hp. I have seen production blocks in the 8's. It was a 406 the block was filled but still. 8's.

So just what would need to be done to get this motor up close to 350hp?

Think Cam, intake, and exhaust. Those heads will prob top out around there. Make sure you have a solid ignition system, nothing fancy just good working order.
