I'm hoping my kid's interest in cars sticks...this is kind of a dry run. It'll be a few years before she's driving, but I'm hoping to build her first car with her. That way she'll appreciate the work that goes into it, and hopefully won't trash it like I did my first car (72 SS Chevelle), and will know something useful in the future

I remember my son was probably 3-4 yrs. old when he was crawling under the car when I was working on it. I didn't even hear him or see him until I looked over and saw him laying there. He's been a car guy ever since!

We got to keep the hobby alive. I don't want my kids inside playing video games all day. Learning how to turn wrenches seems to be a good alternative.

Default Power Windows

How big a PITA is it to change a non power window car to a power windo car? I just picked up a new drivers door to replace the rusted out one on my camaro, and it has power windows. Im debating just making it a roll up. Thoughts???Comments???

my 78 had roll up and my uncle had his buddy put 80 doors on it which had power windows, my uncle died and when i went to pick up the car from his buddy i asked were the old doors and fender were he said they were rotten gone to the dump, i questioned "why would you do something stupid like that? they werent even yours" because there was alot of good parts left on them (windows, mirrors, door panels, handles, locks etc), he got mean and told me to hurry up and take the car and get off the property.

Anyway, long story short i have power windows with no power going to them, if you do end up going power windows let me know where and how to rout the wires from.

if i had a choice i would go roll up, those little motors die and get weak.

I would go roll up. I is pretty easy to swap the power to roll up. Drill a couple rivets and presto. Now if you wanted to go power, you need to score another power ser up. And still don't have power to them yet. Could I run my own wires from the fuse block? Probably. Could i make it look stock with out another power window car sitting there? Nope. Goog luck. If you got a driverside btw I'm sure you could sell it.

I think you're right. My buddy who's been helping me said the same thing. I'm gonna convert that door to a roll up...just seems simpler.
I just want to get the door on the car, the one that is on it now is rusted through from front to back, and it's not hanging right. I got new bushings for the door pins, I just didnt want to put them on a POS door.
We've spent the weekend converting my friend's 92 from TBI to TPI, and aren't done yet. I hope there's an hour or so to hang my new door tomorrow. I haven't been able to do anyting else in the last month, so that would at least make me feel a little better. The car is starting to look like I took the engine and abandoned it.

Converting to power by using aftermarket equipment is much easier than using factory. I helped a friend convert his roll up windows to power using aftermarket operators and switches, and it was really simple. The kit he got even mounted the switches where the holes for the crank used to be. Pretty trick, and he said it was cheap too.

Does anyone have a pic of a 4 spd console? I'm getting my engine back tomorrow and plan to put it back together, mate it with it's new 4 spd and drop em in, hopefully saturday.
I'm toying with the idea of not having a console at all...but am wondering about options of using my auto console with a 4 spd trans shifter. I have a couple ideas, but am not sure of anything at this point. Pics of a console from a 4 spd would help greatly. Thanks
