Default knocking sound on full lock

Hi,

when I have the steering on full lock, I get a knocking sound from the front on the left and right hand side. It doesn't do it every time though.
The local garage has checked it for me, but they can't find any play on anything. The wheels I have on are 15's, 7inch wide with 4inch backspace.
Please can someone inform me, what it's most likely to be.

many thanks from Luke ( 77 LT )

It might be in the ball joints, tie rod ends, or idler arm. Does it do it while sitting still, or moving forward and hitting the locks?

Could also be the spindle hitting the stop bolt, worn sway bar end link bushings causing metal on metal, broken sway bar links, loose lug nuts, worn wheel bearings. Kind of hard to tell from here. You'd think the guy at the local garage would have an edge over us, being able to look at it first hand.

It seems to do it more when on full lock and going on a incline / decline. The sound is from both sides, but I would say that it's further in from the wheels.

Just thought I would do a quick update on this thread, in-case it could help anyone else.
I have replaced the sway bar end links and there has been no knocking sound since!
