Default Interest 1974 camaro for sale or fluff?

Confession first, I've been pontiac only for the last 15 years, decided to jump back to Chevy and relive my teen years by finding a 74 Camaro.. found this ad on craigslist for a 1974 1/2 camaro?:

"1974 an half Camaro - $3000 (Boyd). This is 1974 an half Camaro. There was only four hundred made in the half year. this car needs a lot of work. This is a project car. It needs a motor, and a tranny. It has a little rust but not that much. The windows are all there.... etc"

Doesn't seem like the GM strikes would have produced a 1/2 year car in 1974... I know regardless of the facts that a 1/2 year car isn't going to make it more valuable (except in this sellers eyes), but I curious though...

unless there is a change of body style im with you. just a car made in the second half of the yr.

That's crazy high for the condition and missing engine and tranny. You can find them running and driveable for that price. Here's a '77 locally that runs, with some rust issues also for just $800. You could have it shipped for another $800 and still be half that price.

There is a running and driving 74 Z28 (rare) for sale on Nasty for the same money. Sorry it was a 77.

I am a huge fan of the 74 Camaro. My first car was a 74 Z28 clone. The 74 has always held it value a little better the its 75-77 brothers. The Z28s do very well cause they come with a 12 bolt and a muncie. The 74 Z28 was the only HEI none Cat production car, except maybe the Vett? For the last 20 year I have kept a eye out for a 74 and watched their prices.

I have never heard of anyone call a car a 74-1/2 camaro. There was a huge strike in 72 but I was unaware of one in 74 (I was under the impression the UAW signed 4 year contract). A google search of 1974-1/2 Camaro turned up nothing. Is there any other info out there on this?

Edit: I am going to have to Call BS

A little research show a major strike took place in 1970-71 (113 days) this screwed up GM and delayed the 72 model year. The only listing I found for GM 73-74 was a 3 day walk out in flint.

Production numbers.
1971=114,630 Camaros sold
1972= 68,651
1973= 96.751
1974= 151,008

Even the 74 Z sold 13,800 units. More then any other year until 1977. I did see a COPO 74 built for the US military that had a SB 400 in it from the factory. Other then that I don't think there is any rare 74's out there.

Gorn, the huge strike was actually in '69-'70, which caused the '70 Camaros to come out in spring of 1970. I was working for Cadillac at the time and things got so slow I was laid off, so it was memorable to me! That's why some people refer to the 1970 Camaro as '70 1/2.

True Vall but there was also a strike at the Norwood factory in 72 that lasted almost 6 months. That's what accounts for production that year being so low.

In 1970 124,900 Camaros where built. That is twice what was built in 72. No worries, I was just looking to see if there was anything behind the the 74-1/2 thing. I am sure it is just a matter of delayed effect. I have always known the 72 year was the model year hit the hardest I just never looked up the numbers before. 74 must have been a good year for GM. I wonder how many would be mustang owners GM got cause of what ford did to the Mustang in 74.

The reason the number was still pretty high in 1970 was because the strike was Fisher Body that built the interiors. The 1970's were the last of the low back seats, and Chevy continued to build bodies and the rest while they waited for the strike to end. Eventually they had to stop, as the strike lasted so long they ran out of storage.
The 124,900 is actually a very small number if you compare it to 1969 or 1971. I think there were over 200,000 built in 1969, and around 155,000 in 1971. Just going from ememory.

Now I'm perplexed. The 1970 model came out late because GM wasn't retooled yet for the huge style change. The 1969 model was still being produced into early 1970, as opposed to stopping in August or September as model runs normally do. In reality, some people actually have a 1969 5/4 model.
