Reset your timing to achieve max advance and then see where the engine temp goes to. Based on where the timing was set before, your engine just may want more advance than the original engine did. Timing being too far retarded can make the engine run hotter.

 

do u have a fan shroud? my car doesnt have one and when i was idiling weird after i fixed the problem it would overheat when sitting there for a few minutes, but was completely fine once it got moving

 

It turns out a few of my spark plug wires were touching the exhaust manifold and was literally burning.. So i replaced the burnt ones and tied all of them together, and for the mean while im running pretty good..

i thought u said u changed the plug wires? so u had to buy em twice. get some wire looms to hold them. not real expensive, much less than wires. so whats next on the list of car to do things? lol. might need to reset the timing.

 

High idle does not cause car to overheat. Retarded spark may.
