Default How to take off shift ***?

It's been a long day and I have hit my wall and can't figure it out for the life of me. I am sure it's easy and I am over thinking it.

How does the shift *** come off a 77 Camaro automatic? It's the push button shifter. I thought it would simply twist off but do not want to break it.

Anyone have any experience in this for me?

i think they were the same back then as mine. if so look for a metal piece toward the front of the car on the ****. should look like a big staple. pull it out. **** should come off.

on second gen camaro automatics you need a pair of snap ring pliers to get it off. pull the center button out (it pulls straight off just needs a little tugging). inside is a snap ring remove it from around the shaft and the **** comes right off.
