? how much HP will a 68 10 bolt take
Have a 1968 rs with a 10 bolt. I would like to go to 373 gears with a possi.
Car now has a 327 and t350 With goodstreet tires on it. And will keep only street tires on it.
I was told not to put any money in to a 10 bolt but to get a 12 bolt. When a 10 bolt brakes bad things happen to the car? Others tell me a 10 bolt is OK. Long term I would like to get a 383 stoker installed. ? should I spend $ on the 10 bolt or go to the 12 bolt. Looks to be $2500 difference. Ya and nay Come from Strange DTS & Mossler
I know this has been cover a lot but $800 vs $2500 is a lot of cash that can go else where.

There are a few 10 bolt versions the fist gen are weaker then the 2nd gen 8.5" coprerate I think the nova int the mid 70 has the 8.5 10 bolt of the 1st gen dimentions it could be a economical choice. here is a link for more info on rear ends http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/axle_rear_end_guide/

Griff is right about the later model 8.5" 10 bolt and they will handle most applications that are for the street as well as low HP strip applications. I don't thick anyone could give youa number on that as there are too many situations that dictate whether a part will hold up or not.
I believe that most of the people that you are talking to about switching iver to a 12 bolt are telling you this for most ikely one main reason. If you're going to gut your 10 bolt, it will cost you "x" amount of $. If you're going to gut a 12 bolt, it will cost you "x" amount of $. Same amount either way. (give or take a few $) So for the extra $100-200 you will spend on the new housing, the benefits will be reaped.
I for one, will always agree with the masses on this one. Pay the $200 more for a junkyard 12bolt and use it. BTW to save those costs, you must find one that will bolt up with no mods to the tubes or housing.

Strange and Moser also have a very good reputation. They make a very good product too and will handle just about everything you throw at them. They are also a better cost alternative too but are also more into the mass production. IMO
DTS and Currie I cannot comment on as I don't know their product.
If cost is a factor, then I would chose Moser. They have a great customer reputation and are even well known in the racing end of things and their cost is resonable. They will work to get you what you ask for.
I will always suggest MW over anyone, but most people don't have that kind of budget and Moser will definately give you nearly the same quality for a lot less.
