Default How to detail / refurbish Alluminum Wheels

My new 1981 Z28 has the optional alloy wheels. The painted portion still looks good and shines well after a little elbow grease. However, the unpainted portion looks dingy and oxidized.

How does someone go about cleaning up the bare alluminum section of the wheels?
Steel wool, 1000 grit sand paper, buffing wheel, ??????

I did this at least five years ago. 320 DA and buff with an angle grinder with a 10" wheel. The buff wheel is made for a bench grinder but I put it on the grinder and turned the grinder on its side.
