Default Hood release operation on late model Camaro

The original hood release operation for the late model Camaros is NUTZ!!! You have to reach way under the lower bumper section, pull the release, while pulling up on the lip of the hood. It's very hard for me to do alone.

QUESTIONS:
1)- Am I doing this procedure wrong?
2)- Is there an alteration or fix to make a simplier release?

I think originally the hood would pop up on it'd own when the handle was pulled.

Generally when you pull the release it should pop the spring out all the way out. It seems when it gets old you have to pull up on the release and lift the hood or the hook part of the release will still catch the hood. I have seen people customize their release with a cable and a release through the upper grille. I tried using this type of release and it really was not easier, it felt like it was going to break the grille. The hoods are heavy maybe replacing the hinges and the latch will help or get a lighter hood? What type of hood? Standard? 78-79 z28? or 80-81 z28? I have one of each the z28 seems to be the easiest to release. Also have some latches, releases, and hinges cept you are very far away. Although I might visit a friend in Alabama once my Maro is done.

My 78 has a little cable deal that runs trough the grill will a handle shaped like a dipstick. Haven't seen many like this. The cable is seized but you can bet when I'm done with this project it will be working.

Is that cable stock? I made my own cable that goes trough the grill. Works great but looks kinda funny. I haven't found a Camaro intact enough to see how it should have been.

I know something was on there, you didn't have to reach that far under the car when it was new.

The ones with the cable din't have the bend with the plastic on the handle. No bend at all really. The cable goes straight through the arm. I'll take pics next time I go out there.

My 78 had the same problem, if you re-align the hood you'll be good to go. I realigned mine after the paint job and its perfect now, pops up without having to lift the hood. I didn't have to replace anything.

I use a inside hood release cable and handle from a 1978-81 El Camino. Because mine is a 1979 Camaro and the IMSA spoiler .I have have to reach under the spoiler and I have seen too many grills broken on 1978 Camaro `s .A Lokar remote inside hood release is another option,
