Question Help: What is this??

So I've had my car for about 7 years now and I have no idea that this diaphragm does and/or if it works. I do believe it's for cruise control...but I'm pretty sure I don't have cruise control. lol. I've never used it nor know where it is on the steering column.

Question is, can I take it off? If I can, are there other parts that can come off too that went with the cruise control?

Yeah, that's cruise control, you can remove it if you want. Originally there would also have been a control module with an in and out speedo cable, splitting the run from the trans to the speedometer. That module read vehicle speed, and controlled the vacuum to the cruise vacuum can to hold the throttle in place. You also would have had a vacuum release switch at the brake pedal to break the connection to defeat the cruise. All that vacuum stuff can get removed/plugged if it hasn't already been.

ohhhhh ok. I think I know what you're talking about. There was/is a very small button at the bottom on the the air/heat controls. I never knew what it did! I mean, I pressed it before but nothing happened.
So, are you saying I can remove or bypass the control module?

In the pic, this is the control module, correct?

Yep, that's it. You sure you don't want cruise control if it worked? Maybe your car never, or rarely sees the highway anyway.
If you take that module out, you'll need to get a new speedo cable for a non-cruise equipped car to make a straight run.
Save the parts though, or sell them, they have some value.

Yeah, cruise control would be nice IF it worked. Where is the cruise control located anyways? I haven't seen anything that looks like cruise control on the steering column. That why I thought I didn't have it.
Oh, for sure, I save all my parts that I've replaced or taken out.

Somebody could have changed things on your column.
But look to see if you have a concave push button on the very tip of the **** on the turn signal lever.
They're built in pretty well, and it could be there and you never noticed. Yours wouldn't be big and obtrusive with switches and buttons like newer cruise handles are!

Oh my god...that's what that button is for?? lol. I always thought it was for washer fluid! It doesn't have 'cruise' written on it like the Ebay item but wow, that's crazy. Well, like always, I appreciate your help! THANK YOU.

You're welcome 78. Since everything is there and hooked up, I would certainly try to get it working.
Maybe it already does work and you didn't know it?
