u need to check the starter and the wire conections at the battery and starter. need to eliminate some of the posible probelms. check that little carbon **** thats between the coil and dist. to make sure it hasnt went to pieces. check the wiring to the coil and dist. maybe unplug and look at conectors for any heat spots and reconnect. if u got a timing light have a look at that and see what its doing.

This sounds like the solution here.......just a bad terminal connection.....was it?

does it have the box also. like msd 6 or something like that. it sure sounds like something throwing the timing in the distribitor or the ingnition. yes u can test the starter or have it tested in the car. starter draw test.

my battery terminals aren't corroded or anything..but every morning i have to use my little jumpstarter to get enough power to start my car..it turns over at first but doesn't start then after trying twice, it turns over really slow and the tach goes in reverse..the battery has 12v in it according to my voltmeter so maybe its that the cables connection to the terminals isn't tight enough but they seem tightly connected. i think its something with the cables..but i dont know for sure..
cuz if it was the starter then wouldn't it just click but not really turn over?

You need to check your voltage with a volt meter while the you are cranking it. Even that is not the best way ot check it. You can just take the battery and get it tested. You could have a problem with your charging system, battery, Battery cables or starter.
Get the battery tested and make sure its all charged up. From there we can walk you thru a voltage drop test to test your cables. If the battery and cables are good it is most likely time for a new starter. That assumes the motor turn over freely. If everyting is find after the battery is tested/charged we can walk you thru testing the charging system.

How do you know they're not corroded? Is it just a visual inspection? Get a battery brush that has the terminal and wire eyelet scraper together and give them a good go. You'll be surprised what will come out that you probably didn't see.
If the brushes in the starter have gone bad then it can try to turn but not really do anything.
