Ive got a 1977 Camaro with a 350. auto trans. Im lookin into makin this thing a monster. I wanna put cherry bombs right off the headers. Will they be any problems i may have by doing this? I belive summit sales them. Also if i put a edelbrock intake with a stock carburator will i noctice a gain??

Cherry bombs right off the headers wont hurt, unless you go too large on the outlet side for the engine size. You need some back pressure, or your car will blubber and fall on it's face. If the engine has plenty of power in a 350, you can easily go with 2.5" outlets, but otherwise I'd stick with 2" or maybe 2.25".
Being monstrous doesn't necessarily mean loud.
You can change the intake and gain some power, even with a stock carb, but it depends on what manifold you buy. Obviously you wont go with an open plenum, or extreme high rise and have it work with a stock carb, or a stock engine.
Monster engines need monster carbs, and intakes.

if i were u i would run something like an X pipe or an H pipe and dump those bombs out by the rear axle not under your ***. but that just my opinion. ima be running duel bombs like ur saying for a little while till i get the welder up and running or have my girlfriends dad weld it for me. hes only a pipe fitter lol. i might run them streight out the headers a little though that shouldn't be too pricey.

 

Why couldn't I run stright pipe with cherry bombs at the end? Why H or X pipe?

you can X pipes and H pipes just change the tone and even out the back presure between the two sides. but yeah you can just run duels out the back if u want. its kinda up to you and what u want. i hear H pipes sound better but X pipes give u a little more power.( i think)

 

Tying the two pipes together (H or X) will give you a little horsepower increase IF you run full length exhaust. If you just tie them together without a tailpipe it wont do anything but change the tone a bit.
I'd definitely consider running pipes at least to the rear wheels, or you'll drive yourself out with noise and smell.

 

i had my cherry bomb clamped on the pipe by the tailshaft of the trans and it dumped out before the axle. (42" cherry bomb) and it was loud. but i didnt mind. i love the sound. it was even more fun with open headers. i got youtube link if u would like to hear them? its on a 305.

it was kinda hack for a bit. with stock exaust manifold and they dumped into a single pipe on out to the back. im going to run duels with headers to an H pipe gona be a home job. but thats ok. its not to bad if u restore a 40$ pair of used headers from craigslist and build ur own exaust its a good 150$ project with another cherry bomb for me. i think i got some pipe laying around too but im going to get new pipe for it. just be sure to use hangers and do them well or u shake the crap out of car

o did i also say i had 2 rust holes in my floor pan? that was a fun time driven that car. gona be back for the spring time though. will post pixs for yeah guys soon in a thread of my own!
