I've read up plenty on the Pro Comp aluminum heads. They make for a better door stop than something you want to put on a good engine.

Well that's enough for me, 2 negative opinions and not one positive one. Wish me luck on this ebay auction for these 487 iron heads!

I'm watching a set of 487 heads on ebay that have been completely rebuilt and are already cut down for screw in studs/guideplates. Hope I can have a little luck swing my way and get a good deal.
Wish you weren't so far away. My local machine shop sells the old camel humps completely rebuilt with SS valves, hardened seats, new guides, for only $395 outright, no exchange.

Of course they do! I'm sure there's shops all over (excluding Northern Michigan) that remanufacture those heads, I just need to find a good deal like that. There's still a week left on this auction I'm watching and I'm already sure that there will be no "deal" to be had. Already up to $250 with $75 for shipping. I won't mind paying a bit more if I can get a set that are ready to bolt on. Just can't pay hundreds for heads then hundreds more for machining. I know these heads are all over the place, just nothing good local. I asked my machine shop if there was anything around and I got an abrupt "nope." I found a set of World Products S/R's with 1.94's but would need all the machining for my bigger studs etc. Guy wants too much and can't guarantee they're not cracked.... Think I'll keep looking.
