Best compliment I ever got about my gasser was when a guy pulled up next to me and asked, "Is that thing really street legal?"

Gear drives always cause controversy when mentioned on forums. Most people who are against them have never even owned a car with a gear drive set in it. I've had several, and my present 327 in the gasser has one. It's the loudest I've ever owned, and I still like it! It has quieted down some after 5,000 miles put on it this year, but still very noticeable. I wouldn't take it out unless it somehow failed. I like the precise timing, and the sound. I drive a lot more miles than most people do with their play cars, and longer distances than most of my friends. It hasn't bothered me to hear it "sing" as I'm cruising down the freeway.
I've put them in three of my buddy's SBC this year, as they liked mine and wanted a gear drive too. But I don't have one in the BBC in my Camaro, as I wanted it as quiet as possible inside the car.
thank u thats the kinda answer ive been looking for we dont care about the loud noise thats what we want its a HOT ROD you want people to break necks and scratch there heads woundering whats under the hood are old nabor had a gear drive in his truck and it sounded beautiful...We been looking online and found some Mother thumper cams and gear drives that seem legit maybe take a look and tell me what u think...

Pete Jackson has been making gear drives forever.
He does market a 'quiet' set, but still makes noise.
Only reason they make noise is because they are not submerged in oil to quiet the gear operation.
Just a FYI. If you want the 'blower belt whine', gear drive is the cheap way to get the sound.

Pete Jackson is probably the oldest and most respected name in gear drives! They are also sold occasionally on Ebay for pretty reasonable prices.

Not sure which you're looking at, or what your engine details are, so tough to reccomend a certain cam. I can tell you I've installed two Thumpr cams in 350 Chevys for two friends, and one was the 1st level flat tappet, while the other was 2nd level flat tappet. I can't hear a huge difference in the two cams, but the entry level Thumpr is a much better choice for a fairly stock engine. The guy's 350 I put it in performs much better than the other 350 with 2nd level Thumpr, and both are smog motors with nothing much else done to help them flow or perform. The upper level Thumpr doesn't have much low end response when used in a fairly stock engine.

Sounds like you've got a great setup, and I wouldn't mess with it if it's spinning the tires in all three gears! You might get a better sound, and suffer lost performance.

I probably wouldn't hear it over the exhaust anyway....but I went with a double roller, and installed a cam button....
