GAS!
these gas priceses are killing me. what do you guys think about them. and what do you think will happen to the hobby of camaro and old car restoration. and do you think we will have to modify our engines to run on other fuel sources???? cause i get freaken worried about these things...
Gas prices do suck, but thankfully I have an 87 sprint for a daily that gets 40-45 mpg, so it hurts less lol. Car restoration will allways be around, but seeing the cars driven around more often probably wont. I know I don't plan to drive my Camaro around a ton when it gets running. As far as modifying them to run on other fuel, it's quite possible we may have to do that. I think vegetable oil will be the way I go, at least the motor stays mostly intact like that. I just can't imagine lifting the hood and seeing an electric motor in a muscle car haha
all this will end up doing (which had actually started a few years ago) is hurt certain people in the hobby.
there were certain people that could barely afford their cars to start with because they had to finance them. after the gas prices went up, they ended up selling their cars for a lot less than they were worth because they couldn't afford to do both (pay gas and loan), so if the car just sat there they couldn't justify paying for something they weren't going to use.
it also hurts young kids that are trying to start out in the hobby.
myself, along with others, own our cars outright and if we don't feel like driving them, we don't have to because they aren't costing us anything. last summer my '69 sat in the garage all year and I just drove my GTO instead. this year I will have them both on the road and I am just making them less of fuel hogs.
the gas prices are making me put an OD tranny in the Camaro, and I'm glad for that. I figure by the end of the season I will have re-paid for half of the tranny with just my gas savings, all while amking it more fun to take on longer trips

Ha...gas...I am a project manager for a large construction company. My '07 F-250 superduty gets probally a great 10-12 mpg. Costs on avg $90 when I hit the pump at $3.25 where I live. I generally fill it 2-3 times per week. Thanks alot of money! Good thing I have a company gas card!
put in 20 bucks yesterday its pretty much all gone my car gets 18 mpg if i keep my foot out of the carb heh hard to do! I get paid enough to pay my gas but pretty much nothing else. It sucks haha. Will a OD tranny really help that much?
