Default flushing my radiator

well i decided to flush my radiator and i am having trouble getting the coolant that is already in the motor out. the hose that hooks from the top of the radiator to the thermostat housing is off and the hose that hooks from the water pump to the bottom of the radiator is also off. i started the car to try to get the coolant out and nothing happened. am i missing something?

yea i did that and replaced it. it looked like there was fluid looking through where the t stat goes....there wasn't, which is where me being an idiot comes in to play lol.

I always drill a small air hole in a T stat whenever I replace one. Doesn't need to be very large, maybe 1/16"-1/8". That makes filling the system and never getting airlocked much easier and it doesn't affect function.
