Carb rebuild!
Hey guys my carburetor on my Camaro has been acting up and I want to try the rebuild kit since I don't have the money to buy a new one right now! So the question is if it's a difficult thing to do??? Any advice? Thanks
From the non-pro angle (that's me), I have done carb rebuilds, and found them to be pretty strightforward. I would get a book first however. Is the stock carb a Quadrajet? I recently replaced my stock quad with a rebuilt one for about 300$, I plan on rebuilding my old one to keep on hand.
If you decide to go with the rebuild, just take your time, and it'll work. I always say, the only difference between me doing the job, and taking it to a pro, is time....it takes me 6 hours to do what they can do in 1!

One thing to consider on a rebuild if it's an original carb is the baseplate and throttle shafts. They wear over time and you can get a vacuum leak. It'll be tough getting it to run right if yours are worn. A friend who owned a carb repair shop would put a bushing in and fix that problem. I'd make sure the carb is worth rebuilding before you spend the time and money.
Also keep in mind you will need all the right tools, air compressor with a rubber tipped nozzle is a must for cleaning all the passageways . A dip tank is nice but not 100 % necessary . Have fun !!
I've had good luck with the one gallon cans of carb cleaner in past years, but I rebuilt a carb for a friend recently, and the carb cleaners have really changed! They used to be hot stuff that even took the anodizing off, and worked great! This stuff now is so mild it wouldn't even take the grime off!
I'd still give it a try, but I'd get a can of brake cleaner spray to shoot through the various pasages, and parts. It's not that tough, and the kits come with instructions. Just pay close attention to how everything sits before taking it apart, and if there's a question take a picture before disassembly so you can reference it when going together later.

Alright thanks for all your inputs I think ima go ahead on the rebuild for now because of the money issue I am planning on getting a better one since its just running on the stock original one but it's going to have to make due for now till I save some cash
quick question will this carb fit my car???? if it does is it a good carb and a good deal?? thanks

It will fit and work, but seems a bit high to me. Seller says less than 1000 miles, but you have to decide if that's true or not. I sold the same carb this spring for $80, and my buddy sold his for $100 the same week on local CL.
I see them pretty often used for around $100 here.

New, that Edelbrock carb is $360, I'd talk him down a bit. Also, assuming you have a Quadrajet with a stock 4 barrel intake, you're going to need a carb adapter. The Edelbrock is a square bore, Quadrajet is a spread bore, and the carb isn't going to bolt right up to your intake manifold. Hey, this would be a good time to get a better intake!
