Fixing up my 1980 Z28 Camaro
Hey folks. I just purchased my first car - a 1980 Z28 Camaro, in pretty good condition. Here's a picture of it:

I already posted this stuff in my introduction thread, but I really need to post it here too. The car has some issues, and I've got some mechanic friends who are willing to help steer me in the right direction, as well as some friends who are more knowledgable than I. Even so, I am hungry for education and would like to hear your thoughts/advice/anecdotes/whatever you have for me concerning the following issues:
-It needs new front shocks
-It needs new rear tires
-It needs an adjusted steerer column
-It needs a new ignition
-The heater leaks whenever it is running, pretty vague but the heater still works.
-It needs new defrosters on the rear window.
I will likely have to wait until spring to take action.

If all goes well within the next couple of years I might be interested in a new paint job. Some sort of grey or silver would look badass, yes? It'd also be harder to see dirt etc, haha.
Car looks real nice. Do you plan on driving it in cold weather? Otherwise you could by-pass the heater core. And that model looks nasty in black, I would keep it that way. Yes, a ***** to keep clean, but it looks so good when it is.
hey maxi nice z28! thats in great shape..if you dont mind me asking but how much did you pay for it? im in vancouver, WA by the way
..i have an '81 camaro but mines yellow..i agree with camaro, that does look pretty sweet in black!
by the way how would i go about fixing or replacing my rear defroster because mine doesnt work either and i will be driving in cold weather

I'm not sure about replacing defrosters, it's something I'll look in to eventually but not right away.
I paid $4500, which was signifficantly less than what the seller had been asking for it initially. I had test driven some other cars of their and met their family, and so they made me a special offer I obviously couldn't refuse.

yeah that sounds like a good deal from my point of view... i got almost the same kindda car.. but i'm trying to keep it simple as the way it looks just paint without stripes and not a z28 anyways BLACK IS THE COLOR for this model (even tho with my induction hood i get that it is the batmobile alot lol) anyways i like how clean yours look, mine is in about the same condition.
hows about engine ways?

I am looking at an 80 Z28 and i was wondering what color i would paint it if i did get it. I just saw that picture and im set on black now with those cars they look amazing in black! I am thinking black and gold might look good....I would do either black and gold or black and orange if i get this car. For rear tires i say those m/t drag radials that are pretty smooth if you want to hook or look cool. But if you want to or are planning on driving in the rain or snow ever then maybe some bf goodies...Radial t/a's? My brother actually has both of these tires for his 81 Camaro and they both seem pretty good and hes been very happy with them. He also well i dont know if they make front springs with drop or if my brother cut some stock springs down but the car looks great with a lowered front and stock rear.
sounds like you got a project there, yeah Black is sick for this one car, actually on my oppinion almost any car, i dont' remeber where but i saw a 71 on black sick with it, that was by far one fo the best restorations i have ever seen i loked better than the upcoming camaro (for my taste)
anyways waht you think about that black with gray stips? maybe i just got some weird taste but waht about chrome racing strips? thats waht i wanna do eventually

My personal preference for the color of any car is always within the silver/grey spectrum. If I could do a full body grey and then dark grey stripes, I'd definitely go for that(or visa versa)...
At this point I think keeping the hood and trunk hatch black, while making the rest of the body dark grey, would please my sensibilities the most.
