Few Questions
I am about to purchase a 1980 Camaro Z28 from a dealership in Clearwater Florida and I have a few questions for you guys. The Camaro looks to be lightly modified from the pictures I have seen. I have not yet seen it in person I will go Thursday to pick it up. What would be the estimated 1/4 mile and 0-60 times of a '80 Z28 stock? Also what would you suggest the first modifications be. This is my first muscle car, switched from a VR4, so all of this stuff is new to me.
back in 1980 they were tested at the track for a 16.8 sec and 86 mph in a 4-speed car (C&D Magazine). you have to realize that these times were accomplished with a new and fresh car, not something that has gotten tired over the years, so you would have to expect a lot slower now out on one that is still stock
Luckily it has been lightly modified and the car has been fully restored looking brand new. It's not the original 350 that came with it to my knowledge but I may be wrong. Here is a picture of it.

I am not sure it's a z28 but I read only the 350's had a Z28 in 1980 so it would have to be. But that engine is new so they could a swapped a 350 from the original 305. I don't care if it's a non Z28, I only need it to have a 350.
ask them to get the date code stamped onto the block. It's behind the alternator on a shelf that will stick out further than the head. Also a casting number from the block witch is located on the driver side where the bellhousing bolts on. You can tell exactly which motor is is by the date code and verify it with the casting number.
