Default Fender Flair Question....Need Help!

Hello all Camaro enthusiasts, I am new to this site but I have searched for some help with installing my fender flairs, I purchased factory fender flairs so I could add them to my sons 1981 Camaro, the car didn't come with them from the factory. The rear flairs went on real well, but the front flairs didn't I must be missing a part, when I put them on they are not flush with the outside of the fender, i used the spring "U" with the nut attached to it and the clip "U" nut is holding it away from the fender, is there supposed to be a different piece that holds them on, like a strip of metal with the bolts attached to the strip like the rear ones?

Hope I haven't just rambled here, but any help would be greatly appreciated, i building the car with my 16 yr old son and were both stumped

Thanks a lot for any advise....

There should be a flat plate with three studs sticking out. This goes behind the fender extension. I don't know what a 'spring U and a clip U" are. Pics would help a ton.

77nomad----Thank you very much for the reply, so the front fender flairs take the same type "bolt strip" as the rear on did, the rear ones come with it, the front had the funny spring steal "u" shaped clip with a nut made on it, I will try to attach a picture

Also, does anyone know where i might purchase the correct connector, the strip with the bolts attached for the Front Flairs?

They don't repop them. If you have access to a welder. Take a one inch wide strip of 18g steel. Put three 1/4-20 x 1" bolts in the holes on the fender extension. Line the strip up and tack it. Then pull it off and finish welding the bolts to the strip. Presto your done.

I think the clips he's referring to are these:
Extruded U Nut M8-1.25 Screw Size - GM Ford

Those are NOT it at all. I can't see how that would ever work. As for the plate, I'll be making my own here shortly. I should do it tomorrow since I don't feel like sanding Bondo.

I'm with you on not wanting to sand Bondo, not a whole lot worse than that in my opinion.

The only thing I can think of worse is zipping myself up in my zipper.
