Default drivers side mirror

Hey everyone I was hoping to get your opinion on this.
Some jerk just ripped off my drivers side mirror. In looking for a new one (wow they're pricey) I realized there are several options. My car originally came with a chrome mirror on the drivers side only. I've recently discovered most 1971 camaros came with either chrome mirrors on both sides or the painted bullet mirrors.
Does anybody know what the difference in the options were? Where mirrors specific to the packages or just based on personal preference? I've never seen any information on it.
Also, with this in mind, does anyone have an opinion as to what would be best for my car? I have the original build sheet for my car and so far, most everything is original, so a part of me wants to replace it just as it was. However I'm not sure I'm going to keep it that way forever. (oh how I dream of a 383 stroker)
Thank you

Both mirrors are a little spendy. I'm guessing they were something to do with a certain trim package. I don't have an extra bullet or I would cut you a deal. I don't like the chrome ones myself, then again I dont have a early second. But I do have a stroker so nah.

Let me tell you what i would do with Lilith if i had her (and the money lol), I would keep all the original parts (just because) but i would drop a beast motor (blown 396), long tube headers, th400 tranny, B&M shift kit, posi rear, diff. rims (maybe some old SS's), split bumper, 4" cowl scoop (without blower hood, need one of those too ), rear spoiler, bullet/sport mirrors, black paint with lime green stripes, and tinted windows. By the time im done she would be called Goliath lol.

The chrome manual mirror's are a bit cheaper than the bullet ones, but IMO either ones are nice. I would keep an eye on ebay for the bullet mirrors but the chrome ones you can get pretty cheap from http://www.restorationperformance.co...terior,/Detail Or put a wanted local classified and post something here or maybe over in the swap meet on NastyZ28.com.

Nomad, about that stroker... You suck :-P

Joe, its kind of funny, my family jokes that one day Lilith will be two cars. All original parts in the bar, with all new parts driving down the street. I'm kind of obsesive about keeping the original parts (I even have the original license plate and windshield wipers) Luckily about a month before the mirror was ripped off, I had it replaced with an extra one I had. The former owner wanted to replace it because the chrome was peeling off but never got around to it, so I still have the original
Interesting though, those things you recommend sound incredibly familiar... where did I hear about someone wanting to paint their car black with (3 shades of)lime green stripes...hmmmm
The split bumper was actually the first thing I ever said I wanted to change, and will some day. the Cowl Hood and rear spoiler also sound really great. When it comes to the mechanical stuff I'm totally clueless as of right now. I am trying to learn and everyone here is really helpful.
Thank you for that link, that is the cheapest I've seen them for so far. Do you know if it comes with the gasket and bracket, it doesn't say one way or the other. When the old one was ripped off the bracket was twisted, bending it back into place will probably break it.

Call me Damon and it took a healthy income tax return to build the stroker.

Chrome mirrors were a early item. Late '71's got the bullets and early got chrome. My '71 has the chrome mirrors also, as do all the original 70 1/2 Camaros. I like the chrome better, as I think they look more "old school" than the later aerodynamic bullets.

thanks, that's really good to know. If it's specific to when the car was built, I'll probably keep it chrome.
Do you know if that is also why I don't have a passenger side mirror?

I'm sure it did. I can only dream of one day making enough throughout the year to recieve such a return at the end of it. (sigh)
in the meantime I'll try to hide the jealousy and just be happy for you.

Pasenger side mirrors were an extra. They only came with driver's side unless you ordered the other, or had a particular "package" that included the R. side mirror.
