Default Difference between drive trains and bodies

I found a good deal on a 1970 camaro with the 6 cylinder/4speed package in it. If I bought this I would upgrade the motor to a v8. Are there any differences between the body/chassis with the 6 cylinder compared to a v8 version of the same car that I should be aware of? I am new to camaros, but I am a sucker for th 70-73s. Also will the 4 speed bolt up to a chevy v8?

body wise there was no difference. might be a difference in the front springs...heater box should be ok unless you go with a big block. not sure about the transmission cross member...the frame to motor mount pads are different between the 6 and 8...my 71 was originally a 6 banger..accessory brakets and radiator are all different.

I think the saginaw 4 speed would bolt up to a v-8....

Is it an original 6 banger 4 speed?....Might be an interesting one to restore...not sure how many original 6 banger 4 speeds there were.......

That's a good point, I didn't think about it like that. I will have to ask. Say I purchased the vehicle, how could I tell what's original and what's not?

You can tell a lot from the VIN number, ID plate codes and the casting numbers of the engine and tranny.

There is a wealth of info on this site as well as other sites.. below is one...

http://www.nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro70.html they show about 12,500 6 banger coupes and they show the 250 L6 wasn't available with the 4 speed interesting...

there are many other sites with info, just start googling it..

some other sites using search "second generation camaro"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second-...evrolet_Camaro

http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/stegmiller/

In additon there are countless books on the subject

and you can always post specific questions here in the forum and someone will help you figure it out.

Mine was a 350 car. youll need alarger radiator like rat said. I'm not sure about the heater core, mine isn't hooked up but it looks like the hoses would clear the big block. You would also need springs in the front made for a V8. I take it you have disk brakes up front?
