Deciding between a '77 z/28 or '79

Hey everyone, I’m looking to buy a 2nd get Camaro and have a couple options of cars I’ve found in my area. Based on the information below, what are y’alls thoughts? As far as price, the ’77 is $2k more than the ’79. Feel free to ask any questions.

’77 Camaro z/28 - clean clear title
  • Engine: 350
    • Bigger cam - probably about a 280
    • New Holley Street Warrior 600 carb
    • Runs great, stays cool, driver immediately
  • Trans: manual (model unknown)

  • Rear-end: 10 bolt post trac
    • Line lock
    • Traction bars
    • Air shocks on the rear
  • Body: very small rust in the rear quarters behind the tires
  • Other things I know about it:
    • Interior is in good shape, not great
    • Removable 6-point roll cage
    • Disc brakes in the front, drums in the rear
    • “Supposed to have a heavy duty pressure plate and upgraded disc. It will bite hard and has no chatter or hot spots you can feel."
  • Extra parts that come with it:
    • Full set of factory Z wheels with caps and beauty rings
    • Another dash panel
    • The rest of the A/C system
    • Speedway late model lights
    • Brand new set of headers in the box
    • Another set of weld wheels with a different offset
    • Rear anti-sway bar

’79 Camaro - clean clear title
  • Engine: 350
    • Unknown small cam
    • “Worked heads"
    • “650 carbs I believe"
    • High rise tunnel ram intake
    • Runs great, "180 degrees all day", driver immediately
  • Trans: automatic (model unknown)
  • Rear-end: unknown
  • Body: no rust, frame is solid
  • Other things I know about it:
    • Interior in great shape
    • T-tops
    • Electric windows
    • New wheels, good tires
    • Good gas tank
    • Power brakes and steering
      • Probably drums all the way around
  • Extra parts that come with it:
    • None

Its like blondes ,brunettes and redheads type question .I would have another shop or a knowledge-able friend look at both cars,

ryanpitts1 10-09-2018 08:48 AM

Yea, i understand. I am getting shops to do pre-purchase inspections on them so we'll see what that turns up.

Well, an update here. The blue one came back with some frame damage on the inspection and just a little more overall work than i was ready to get into. During that time the black one sold as well. BUT, i did end up purchasing this beauty! 1976 with a 383 and a bunch of other work already done; new trans, new 12 bolt rear end, long tube headers, disc brakes all the way around, tubular uppers and lowers, etc.

Nice 76, is that a Harwood steel hood? Are you going to put A/C back in it?

ryanpitts1 11-11-2018 02:20 PM

Thanks everyone! I love it!

Y2K, nothing too fancy. Turbo 350 with a B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter.

Al, not sure what brand but yea, it's a 4" cowl steel hood. And yes, I'll eventually get the A/C back in. Got all the duct work for the dash to install, just need to plumb it up and stuff.
