so its probly not as cushy because when you laminate two of the same sorta martial together its going to be stiffer. so its the same material just stiffer because you have in turn laminated/glued it together. i guess theres no harm in that.

They are definitely harder and not the same material. They have the exact same look but are made of something more like the side panels or kick panels. Not the soft vinyl or rubber that the pad is originally.

The lower part that the cap does'nt cover can easily be painted to match.I'm doing the same thing, going from blue to black, and that's what i am going to do is paint the other parts.

Yes the dash caps are harder than the originals. They wont have as much effect from sun and heat as a original dash pad, but they look just like the softer pad.

The dash cap wont be an issue matching. The dash pad isn't a perfect match anyway. Spray it wiith vinyl interior paint and it will look great. The edges of the cap are tapered to blend in and not stick up, so no issue there either.
You will need to cut away any areas that stick up and wont allow the new cap to lay flat. Trial fitting the cap will be a must to ensure there aren't any areas that produce a problem. Once it's fitted and ready just clean it good with degreaser, stick on the adhesive strips, and put it on. We also used some adhesive in areas that were hidden to really ensure a good bond forever.
