Default Core support installation

Hey guys - we had to remove and replace the core support in the 74 because of the typical rust issues.

We are having trouble getting the "new" support to line up. It is going in the 74, but was from a 77, so it should fit. The support bolts in fine and good - but the bolts that hold the triangular brackets that go to the crush cans of the bumper do not line up correctly.

I have an inch gap between those welded nuts on the core support and the brackets they should screw into.

Any ideas/pictures of your install would help so that i can get a good idea of how to properly put this back in. This is a case of alot of time went by between removal and installation and every bolt and position is not fresh in my mind anymore.

Please help! Thanks.

well...no help here yet - BUT i did some measurements from the old rusted out support vs. the new one.
The holes that have welded nuts that hold the brackets to the crush cans are NOT the same distance apart, and MORE importantly, the whole support sits too far back to the rear where the bushing mounts are for the other connections to fit.

Does anyone know the changes that were made? I was TOLD this was a 77 support and that 74 and 77 were interchangable.

...it is not interchangeable.

Wish I could help, but I'm more familiar with the 70-73 Camaros. Sounds like if things are that far off, then you don't have the correct support. You might be able to drill holes in the correct location, and use bolts and nuts to attach brackets, if you can access both sides.

IDK If its not the same its not a 77, I agree it should be identical. Post a pic and I can tell you if its a 78-81.
