I found a site that sells conversion kits to transform 700R4's to 400's and I was wondering if it could be done in reverse to gain the addition of the OD? I know there's electronic and non-electronic 700R4's. What would be the best way to go if it is possible (electronic or non-electronic). From the looks of the schematics for the conversions all it is is the tail section that's being replaced so that would also mean converting the drive shaft to a different length.

Just wondering if anyone's seen anything like these before.

I take it you mean you replace the 700R4 with a T400? With a longer tail shaft and housing to make up the difference in length?
Why not just get a built-up 700R4? 700R4 and 4L60 is the same trans. 4L60E is the computer shift controlled version that you don't want for a conversion.
And you can buy a simple kit that controls torque converter lockup on the 700R4.

 

Maybe I'm just totally misunderstanding it. Transmissions aren't good territory for me but I've never rebuilt one. Want to get one from the scrapyard just to tear it down to understand it better but that's when I have time to do it.

That is just a kit so you could install a existing TH400 in a truck that originally had a 700R4 in it. It will nottransform a transmission. Maybe you should just post what you want to do and we can show you a path to get there.

 

Nah, I just came across it and thought it was a way to transform an 700R4 to a TH400. In the end I would like to go to a transmission with an OD but that's a long ways off.

I know I can get a 700R4, new driveshaft and crossmember and put that in but it's a whiles off.
