The carb setup will depend on many factors but the two biggest are the Cam and what do you want from the car. The single plane/750 should be good to 7200+ RPMs but will not run good at 2500. The duel plane/600 would be streching it at 6000 RPM but it would be very street friendly.

I had a friend that use to swap two simular setups on his SBC. One was for daily driver and the other was for weekend runs to the track. (He had the swap down to about an hour) The only problem with that was you need a mild of the road cam.

1971BB427 is exactly right. I can't hook up out of the hole. Lots of tire spin.So I have to dogit off the line. Can't wait to try it with my ET Street Mickey Thompsons. What is the differance between 180cc runner and a 190-195cc runner ? How does it effect the motor ?

Between 77nomad and 1971BB427, these guys know their stuff...

I am window dressing and the cheerleader, mechanically speaking.

I can say that i am running the comp cam 280h in my 350 LT-1 and yes the idle is nice and oh yes, it has a power band from about 3000 RPM to 7000 RPM...It loves to get wound up and the pull past 3500 RPM is sweet all the way to redline and you better shift....
I can also agree that you have traction issues.i can do no better than 13.9 at 102 MPH, with all kinds of traction problems.
The Vega should get you into the low 12's ....
I also am running Flat tops with the heads milled and a steel shim head gasket.
I was told that i was running about 9.5 to 1..I like it because i can run pump gas and advance the timing so it snaps my head off without any pinging....
When i rebuilt it, i fought with the idea of 11 to 1 pop ups...I think i did the right thing.

Small block Vega's.....Sweet

PS....Before i bought my first 1970SS back in 1976, i went over to look at the black and gold Consworth Vega ....Took it for a test drive.....Came back in coughing and spitting out the tailpipe.....needless to say i did not but it....
V8 Vega...Wow, a whole different animal...

Thanks Gorn, with the single plane and 750cfm it runs great from 3500-6500 rpm. Not very streetable though. I love the dual plane and 600cfm very snappy throtle right from idle up to 5500 but not much after that. So my guess here (from everyones input ) is 59-65 cc heads, Felpro's thin Blue head gasket, Dual plane intake. 650 or 700 cfm carb ? Would the 750 carb be to big ?

Thanks Bucketlist2011, I agree, the knowledge factor here is to good to be true. I have never heard of a steel shim head gasket.(shows you MY knowledge factor) Do you think I will have fuel (pinging) problems with the setup I have mentioned ?

I crunched some numbers for you, just for fun. Not knowing all the specs of what your engine has can only allow me to figure what you might have, in order to achieve your 9:1 static c.r. With your 76 cc heads, flat top pistons, and having them .020 down in the hole, head gaskets with a 4.080 bore, and a .039 compressed thickness, you'd be right at 9.1:1 c.r. All these specs may be a little different from what you actually have, but it will give a very good baseline for figuring what smaller chamber heads will give you. With all else being the same, 65 cc heads will give you a 10.25:1 c.r. Before you say, ooh it's over 10:1, keep in mind that you can get away with a higher c.r. with aluminum heads as compared to iron heads, one of the advantages of aluminum heads. You will want to burn premium though, or at least alternate every other tank between premium and mid grade, refilling at about a half tank (that's what I do with mine). You can also get head gaskets that have a bore diameter larger than 4.080, which will drop your c.r. Your best bet, before getting anything for your engine, would be to tear it open and see just what you have.
Smart choice on the AFR heads, go with the 195 intake runners. A dual plane intake will be friendlier for you on the street. And go no smaller than a 650 carb.

i have a set of camel humped head 202 160's 64cc chamber heads thought might be a cheaper way out than buying a set of alum heads.

Thanks for taking the time to crunch all the numbers Camaro 69. That great info. I will tear down the top end and check the numbers before buying anything. Thanks anyways mindtwister, I have my heart set on these Aluminum heads just in case I go to a Stroker motor down the road.

Camel humps went out with bell bottoms and rear shackle kits.

Ohhhhhh, the guy has camel hump heads. When he said "camel humped", I figured they were some special technique "ported & polished" heads, made in Pakistan or somewhere like that!
