i put a weiand intake and holly 650 carb, cant get it to start. just noticed gas is coming up out of dipstick when turning key. i also having vacuum issues as the carb i put on has less vacuum ports than the quadrojet did, had to put brake booster into intake and tee it off with transmission line. itd a 75 so i want to eliminate the smog hoses and such but not sure what to remove and plug off vacuum? how is gas getting into my oil?

 

Check the fuel pump for a hole in the diaphragm.

 

If You have gas in your oil. DON"T try starting your car again you know how it got in there, especially since its coming out of dipstick tub. Something isn't right.

Whoa! Time to stop trying to start it, and figure out why it's flooding so badly that the engine is full of gas! Drain the oil out, but before you do check the oil level! It must be way over full with enough gas getting into the engine that it comes out the dipstick!
Do you have an electric, or mechanical fuel pump? If it's electric, you need a regulator also, or it will flood from too much fuel pressure. If it's mechanical it can still produce too much pressure, but less likely.
Since you just changed the intake and carb, it might be a vacuum leak from a misaligned intake gasket, or a problem with the carb base gasket, etc. Time to step back and start removing parts you've installed, and check to see where something might have gone wrong.

 

Not really in my expertise, but could it not also be a blown diaphram inside of the mechanical pump, allowing fuel straight into the engine?

 

Yes, very possible.

 

The reason I suggested the pump, is because my 70 Formula 400 had the same issue. Different engine but still a mechanical pump that may be the same (?).
