car help!?

Unhappy car help!?

Hi here maybe someone can give some helpfull advise here. Ok, so now this happend 4 or 5 times now but when im driving as i push on the accelll about at 40 or 50 km/hr ill hear a ticking sound , like tick tick tick as i push more on the pedal. secondly when i stop the car and preced to shut her down she does a old person coff and choke sound then one time with some puff of smoke fromt the carb?? any help would be great.

I am going to say check the timing and oil level.
the tick sound might be the uper end starving for oil
the chocking (run-on) can be caused by timming being off.

Yeah, what he said.... if it's ticking, check the oil level. If it's more than a quart low, get a quart in there cuz it will ruin your lifters.
As for the choking when you turn it off means the timing is reatarded. Get a timing light and check it, it should be around 8* BTDC if it's a V8

Could also be advanced.. either way I think once the timing is set the choking will go away.

Some idea of the year and the setup, please Sounds like you combustion chamber is getting hot maybe from being leaned out? The ticking noise sounds like marbles in the engine? Maybe a power valve in the carb is failing.

Newer second gens have emission systems that can also cause this.
