Default Car doesn't move

Finally got my 1975 going with its new sbc350. Only problem is it wont move. I put tranny fluid in but after a couple quarts it was spitting it back out. It is difficult to get the car into drive and when I finally did it didn't move. Is it the fluid or the linkage or what?

I know that when I install a new converter I need to put in fluid and then ratchet it between drive and reverse for about 5 min. and keep adding fluid. The converter will suck up 3qt by its self, depending on the size of the converter. Then when the fluid is at the full mark you need to drive it for a while and you will still need to add some.

Did you remember to install the t.c. to flexplate bolts?
How many quarts of fluid did you put in? A dry TH350 and converter takes about 10 quarts.

I had a problem like this when I first got my 76. I disconnected the linkage that goes up to the fire wall. The cable for the shifter will still work with out it. Worked like new. Actually.... I dont think I ever hooked it back up. oh, well.

torque converter
Heres a pic of one.
It acts like a clutch to transfer power to the trans, but using fluid.
Orileys has a newer stile rubber for the dip-stick that works really well.
