I think the 2nd gen came with a v6 at the end of production. If you are going for the v6 go for the Grand National V6 we have a guy in our area that runs one in a Vega runs deep into the 11s drives it to the track and gets 20 +mpg on the street aint nothing wrong with that.

 

Just put a 4 cyl Iron Duke in it lol

or you could always put a L36 3800II in it

And I aint gonna knock on a V6. I put a 97 vortec 4.3 in my mom's 84 S10. The damn thing has more power than my 305. I gave her the can of whoop *** to open up on me![&o]

 

Put one of these babies in, GMC twin V6. Made by GM with economy in mind. With the 7.5:1 compression it will probably run on anything that burns, and because it isatwin V6 should give twice the economy of a single V6. lol
