Camaro Options
I have a 1972 Camaro SS. I am looking for a service or a direction in finding out what options and other historical information that is associated with my VIN. Information like what options came with the vehicle, build sheets, etc. Is there anything out there that can trace historical information for these cameros? Thanks?

This is also a great site for info, check it out: http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...second-gen.asp
Im talking about the protecto plates and build sheets for the vehicle. usually they will give you all the information that you would've gotten on the original window sticker including engine serial numbers to check and see if you have a matching numbers car, and the actual options that were put on that particular vehicle.

Not sure if you have looked here or not, this may be a newbie like me stating the obvious so I hope I don't make myself look like a jackass. In any case, I found the original build sheet for my '79z under the back seat. Was sort of a PITA to pull it out, but when I did, there it was. Good luck

If you are looking for a way to use you vin number to find a build sheet, that does not exist. If you can not find the build sheet you are out of luck. If there was a way anyone could verify anything about any car. If your car is matching number then the numbers stamped on the block will match the end of you vin number. When someone advertises Numbers match and documented. That means they have all the orginal paperwork. The above sites will tell you where to look in the car.
There is no way to make a documented car, you have to buy it that way or get lucky and find the papers in the car. I would not worry about it to much, many of the cars that are "documented" are forged anyway. I read a thread on another website where the created every document including a service history for a car that never existed. Since there is nothing to make the docs hard to copy they can be reproduced on a home PC with a scanner/printer and a couple of trixs.

There is a way to do it with Pontiacs, PHS services will give you all the information on what options came to that particular VIN # and also includes copies of the original build order sheets and original documentation that came from the factory Pretty impressive stuff. But, again, that pontiacs only. Is there anyway they can do it for the Camaros???

How far back do they go? can you imagine the size of the file systems it would take at almost a million cars a year? most of it paper work. You got wonder how they make any money with a monster like that.
I know when it comes to Camaro there is a huge problem with clones. People spend a lot of money trying to prove their cars are not clones. There are even experts that will fly to you and give their cert that car is orginal. Even that is not 100%.

General Motor's Vintage Vehicle Department will run your Vin and send you all the info they have on your car. I did it for my 78Z and they told me what engine and tranny the car came with, every option it had, interior colour, stripe colour, etc. It cost me $60 but I got all the info I wanted.
