Camaro needs a diet plan.

i've seen these cars drop to under 3000 lbs but that requires a alum frame and is not cheap..dropping 400 is doable with alum front end or doors, glass or carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, lighter wheels, manual steering swap and stripped interior as much as possible if it's a race car
he shaved off about 320lbs

Thanks for the tips.
I like the idea of two sets of doors.
I am trying to figure out how to cut the braces out of the current doors. Looks like a pain. Also thinking about trying to make some plexiglas windows. I dont see why I can not gut the plexiglas and shape it with a heat gun. Should bolt in place of the current window. I want to be able to open my windows.
On the back seat. It is 40lb. Adding all that metal in place of the back seat cant really save that much weight. Since I don't have a break it would be a lot of work and isn't cheap. I don't think it is worth the effort.
Wheels are not centerlines. Rear slicks are on stock S10 steal wheels. I want a set of 18's to drive on and something else to race on, but that will take over 3k. Will be a while. Hopefully I can find a cheep set of wheels at a swap meet.

All that metal in 18ga or 20ga aluminum wont weigh but a few pounds total. A brake at Harbor reight is $59 (just bought one) so for a little aluminum and a $59 brake you could save that 40 lbs.

Here's a guy selling a bunch of lexan and fiberglass parts for your diet.

I totally agree about the lexan. There are places that sell pieces precut for our cars too. My Nova was lexan all the way around. I cut a piece for the front and rear then set it in the sun laying over top of the real glass, black blanket under them both. The lexan formed to the shape of the originals. For your doors you will need a skeleton of round bar to hold the lexan. Say like 1/4" round bar. Otherwise it will be a floppy pile of crap.
When I cut the doors up on the Nova I used a piece of conduit with the ends flattened, run diagonal to keep the door from twisting while open. They were real flimsy without it.
Here's a link for the kits. $341 There running a sale on them right now.
Alston Race Cars Check out the fiberglass 2010 Camaro body there too.
