Default Camaro needs a diet plan.

I need to put the Camaro on a diet, it needs to loose about 700lb, realistically I would like to drop 400 lb.

Car weighs 3705 lb with me in it.

I still have the back seat, that is like 20 lb and not really
worth taking out. I have a small amp and 12" sub I will
take out when going to the track.

I need budget ideas. I know I can spend 2k on a
fiberglass front kit, but I dont have 2k.

In Colorado, I just ran a 12.75 for those who have
been flowing my posts.

That's going to be a near impossible task to lose even 400 lbs., and not sure a complete glass frontend could accomplish the task. If your car was strictly a strip car you could lose some items that aren't required, like the front bumper assembly, lights, various sheetmetal support brackets, front inner wheelwells, heater assembly, lighter wheels.
Those T tops are super heavy too, and might be able to fab something to fill the holes when racing so the glass could be taken off. The rear seat is light, but it will have to go also if you want to get even close to 400 lbs.
At some point a decision must be made to either keep it at street/strip level, or go all out. If you want faster times there's a point when street comfort and manners will have to lose out.

you could always take off the hood when you race to?

Heard a trick from a old hot rodder about cutting out the huge door supports inside the doors to loose weight, he told me they weighed about 30 pounds a piece ive never done it though, if you do let me know how it goes, he also told me something about a ton of extra metal behind the front nose piece, ive never investigated it yet but could be worth looking into, i know all the supports in the doors and nose piece are there for safety reasons and what not but if you want to loose weight its an idea. keep us up to date

^^ all that metal behind the nose is called the bumper lol

Door supports inside must be something done on later 2nd gens; mine doesn't have that feature.

I was also told the door braces are 35lb each. I am trying to figure
out how to cut them out. Wish I could find a set of doors off a 71.
Not sure when the braces first appeared but there are in a 74.

I noticed the bumper assemble right after posting this thread.
I knew there was a bumper, but had no idea how big it was.
I took everything out from behind the nose. That had to have been
close to 150lb.

The car is defiantly primarily a race car. The back seat isnt even
20lb, so I really don't see a reason to take it out. By the time you
sheet metal and carpet the back so it looks ok, you are at the
same weight.

I will get an a/c delete box soon.
I will get a fiber glass hood, just need to get some savings back.
Should get lighter seats, but that is a lot of money.
Wondering how much weight I can gut out from behind the seat.
All that metal bracing. I'm not sure if I could cut enough to matter and still keep the strength.

I like the idea of fabing something to replace the tees.
I didn't plan on going this much toward the racing side
when I bought the car. If so I wouldn't have bought a T-top.

Get some fiberglass race doors, and an extra set of hinges. On race day, bang the pins out, separate the hinges, and pop the glass doors on. For obvious safety reasons, I wouldn't want to run on the street with glass doors. That alone would buy you quite a number of pounds.

Check your local swap meets too for bucket seats. I see used nice racing buckets for under $75 a pair here often. Mine cost me $60 with the harnesses too.

You could switch ps to manual. If those wheels are not real centerlines but cast wheels you could switch them also. I would run 3.5 in wheel on front with drag lite tires, big difference in weight. Install alternator cut off switch Yet? I would yank back seat and fab thin aluminum in it's place, it is a Race Car, Right?
