to buy or not to buy?
im looking at a 1971 camaro it would be my first one so i have a few questions before i buy it or not. i need to replace the rear quarter panels, the rear trunk panel, radiator mount brackets. there is also possible rust under the chrome around the window. there is no major body work that needs to be done full interior, dash, seats. new gauges and dash ( guy said he put about 800 into the gauge cluster) 3" magnaflow exhaust, rally tires, all wiring is done. the guy wasn't 3500-4000 for it ( its a rolling chassi) would it be worth it and how much would it be to get it back to decent condition
Run, do not walk away from that beast. My bet is there is five times the rust you have not seen. Check the corners of the dash for rust from leaks in the A pullers. The rust around the rear window is a bunch of work and if the rear fenders are gone so are the inner fenders and the trunk pan. I would guess that you would need to put another $4000 in bodywork before you had a solid car again. I would take a much closer look at it and think about what you would have to put into it to see if it was worth the money.
I like 71's but with that much rust visible there's bound to be more rust that you can't see such as floor boards. If you are able to do all this work yourself maybe, if not, it can get real expensive quick. Look around some more in my opnion. Its not one that I would buy.
3 to 4 grand for a roller? I'd keep looking.
From the sounds of it that car would be about the shape mine started with but I payed $1,000 with a numbers matching 350/4speed obviously the market isn't the same everywhere but there are way better buys out there, you might check the states around you as well I mean if you get a better deal on a running and driving one and have to spend the amount you save on gas to go get it you'd still have a more solid car to start with. Have you checked craigslist, newspapers, ebay, ebay classifieds? I never settle on a deal till I extinguish every possible option to find a better one.

I'd have to agree with the others, You can find a much better car for the same or less money. I paid $3300 for mine and it was running with very little rust on it. Look under it and check out the floor passenger floor pans. If beat up that'll tell you something about the way they were driven.
