Thanks Kyphur! I went to a local yard across the river in Wa. state and they had a couple dozen 2nd gen Camaros and Firebirds. Seems like almost every one of the late 2nd gens with wrap around windows had all the trim, but not the few early 2nd gens.

 

I should be doing my 71 Camaro pretty soon (like in the next few months) I'll probably end up ordering part of the trim for the windows. If I do end up getting that piece and you still need it, I could just send it to you.

 

Oh man that's fantastic! Hope you don't have to buy new, but then again I hope you do!

 

Lol, its all going to depend on what kind of condition they are in when I pull them off the car and then I'll see if I can find some nice original ones around here (SoCal) if not I'll get new. The other consideration is if I have to send them out to have them re-chromed, it could be as expensive as getting new ones so it might be worth it just to get new ones. But I'll definitely let you know!

 

Well you wont have to send them out for rechroming, as they're not chrome; they're polished aluminum.

Another day of cleaning. Love the paint job, but those guys sure left me a mess inside my new interior. Of course I probably wont ever have another car painted, but if I do I'll strip everything out before it goes.
I had all the trim out, but left seats, dash, and carpeting. I vacuumed a ton of dust out, andstill kept finding it. I plugged the air vents and then turned on the fan and put a vacuum over each one as I unplugged them to catch the dust.
Once it was vacuumed, I started wiping everything down with shop wipes and then simple green. After that I had to go over it all with Armor All again.
Got my metal trim sanded and repainted too, so once I get the door glass rollers, I can install the glass, and door panels. Then the headliner and trim can go on and it should be completed. All these little details are a pain. I'd much rather be rebuilding an engine or something I can see progress on faster. No patience.

Got the air brush out to paint the trim. Works great on small jobs!


Not perfect yet, but a lot cleaner with shiny chrome!


Actually had to spray some more splatter paint after cleaning. (The light spots are sun hitting the trunk pan)


This is the custom glove box door that was on the car when I bought it in 1973. Original owner said the guys at the dealership somehow removed the word "Camaro" and put a valve cover emblem on the door.

 

You sure about that? 1st gen's trim is polished stainless, and I thought 2nd gen's still were as well.

 

Yep! Positive. I've handled mine enough to know, and after spending Wed. looking through the local wrecking yard at about 20 2nd gens, they were all aluminum too. Unfortunately none of them had the corner pieces.
