Found them doing a search at HF online for $3.99, so I'll go get some.

I once had a little dog that would pull those things out of the ground... He was a little one too and the anchors claimed to be able to hold 50# dogs. He was a pickaneese/poodle (15# of drool 1# of dog) and would run all out till the end of his chain and not stop till the chain stopped him. He would have those things up in about an hour, then run all over the neighborhood because this thing was chasing him and scaring him as well. You guys mentioning these little devices brought back those memories. We eventually tied him to a tree (a big tree) and after he broke the 25# chain and the 50# chain we finally won with the 100# chain but he did strech a few links.

Oh and those things should work fine so long as you dont tie a little dog like my Odie to them!

I have some of these helix augers that you use for holding down newly planted trees, or anything else for that matter. Once in, they aren't coming out, and will hold a lot stronger than a fido spiral. $4.20 a piece/10, plus shipping. 3 inch auger anchor 15 inch shaft

Now that's what I want for sure! I assume there's a driver to run them in with a hole hog drill, or did you make something to drive them in with? Those sure wont pull out easily!

Found a set of 8 at HF for $11.97 on sale that are 3" x 30", so the longer one might be even better if I can get it driven down!

^ Those are a pretty good deal too. They are 3/8" instead of the 1/2" ones I found though. That's not going to be an issue for what you're holding, but might make a difference if you hit a rock on the way down. All it takes is a length of steel pipe in the top hoop, and crank er in. You still know how to screw, don't you?

Piece of pipe might not work for mine, unles I situate them away from the canopy a bit, as might not clear the walls of the canopy. I may weld up or fab a driver to use in my monster hole hog drill.
Can't find a rock anywhere near my house. Nothing bigger than a .5" rock, and mostly just great farm soil.
I can still screw if I have enough incentive!

Since your canopy is semi-mobile (depending on how the wind is blowing), you could mark where the anchors go and move it outta the way. With your ground, it wouldn't take a lot of gorilla work to crank it in by hand. You only need a 2" pipe, but longer doesn't hurt any either.

Image in my head. Val hanging onto a drill as it spins him wildly instead of driving the anchor.
