RE: BB in 79 Z28
i have a 78 with a 454 in it.i used the motor mount set-up that came with the motor.the motor came out of a 76'chevy truck.i didnt have a problem with anything going in the car.as far as headers go,i called summit up and every header they had would not fit because of power steering and a/c issues.i was trying to keep in my budget when buying headers and finally he found a set of summit brand headers that would fit .they are cheap 1 3/4 tubes($86.00),but they fit right in.didnt have to ding or bend the tubes and there is no clearance problems.

A Pontiac 455 has the same mounts as a Chevy 400/350 CID. It is a stroked small block and would be an ideal motor for big dispalcement and fitting it into a stock frame. Flowtech TRI-Y headers also fit with that combo.

The engine and frame mounts from a small block are not the same. The big block frame mounts kick the engine farther foreward, You can use the small block frame mounts but You may have to modify the firewall a little for distributor clearance. The big block engine mount is a little different. I've used small block frame mounts with Moroso solid engine mounts. They make a long and short mount, You have to use 1 of each to make it fit right. I don't know where Morm got the idea that Pontiac and Chevt mounts are the same, They are completely different. The ideal thing is to luck into a set of frame and engine mounts for a 70 1/2 trhu 73 SS 396 Camaro. With those, it's a bolt in.
