Default Aluminum question

The aluminum pulleys i installed a few days ago dont exactly match each other and i want to try and fix that haha. All of the pulleys are a satin type finish except for the power steering pulley,it is very bright polished.I know i could polish all the others to make them match, but i have an easier idea. What is the best way to unpolish aluminum, way i see it is it would be alot less work to make 1 match the others rather than trying to make the other 3 match that one,so what is the best way to take a polished part down to a satin type finish and still have it look good?

A Scotchbrite pad will knock the bright polish off, and leave it satin. If you're VERY CAREFUL, you could hold it to the front of the pulley while idling the engine and it will give a better satin, as the pulley rotates to get an even finish.
Otherwise you can simply pull the belt and turn the pulley by hand as you burnish with the Scothbrite pad.

Slip a 1/2" bolt in your pulleys center hole and jamb nut it down. The lock the drill in a vise or hold in some safe way. Put a zip tie around the trigger. Then use red scotchbrite, I'd bet you pulleys are clear powdercoated though. It may get ugly before they look good.

Good point Damon! If they're clear coated you might have to sand them to get the clear off first. Maybe you might just want to leave it shiny.

Yeah,i didn't even think about the clear coat,so i may just leave it alone then.Besides with them all installed in the car, unless you shine a light down on them it's hard to tell one is shinier than the others, plus they will be dirty soon so it will be harder to tell haha.

Dirty!!!!???? You'll be under there every so often wiping and cleaning, so they'll never get dirty! At least I bet you will! I know I do!

Yeah definitely going to be wiping and cleaning every once in a while, but if the dirt helps make them look like they match then the rag may have to bypass the pulleys haha.
