Default Air Induction,...Questons??

I have an 81 Z28 with the factory air induction hood. However, the flap is not operating. There are 2 wires coming out of the hood but they don't seem to be connected to anything.

Can anyone describe how this system works? Pictures or diagrams would be helpful. I'm not sure what's missing, what's disconnected, or even what I should be looking for.

Any help would be appreciated.

hey the wires coming down from the hood are a negative and a positive they go to the solenoid that runs the induction, the induction is triggerd by a switch on the gas pedal that is suppose to close on full throttle, hope that helps.

This does help a little....however, where do the wirres attach? Are you saying they should attach to a solenoid on the gas pedal? My wires are not that long.

No, they attach to a switch on the gas pedal, which operates a solenoid.

My wires do not look like they are anywhere near long enough to reach the gas pedal. Also,...I can't see a switch on my pedal nor a solenoid on the carb. Does anyone have pictures or diagrams?

the solenoid is in the hood it self, and the switch on the gas pedal is up on the pedal mount .. so one wire on the hood should be grounded to the car and the other wire must run to the switch and then from the swith to positive power that is only live with the ignition in the run position. my guess is that it is not the original hood!

My car is totally original with the correct original hood and fire wall. However, I can't find the switch on the accelerator pedal. Is it mounted in the floor board on the gas pedal?

Does anyone have a picture or diagram?

Look under the dashboard at the pedal arms and linkage. Follow it to where it penetrates the firewall, then look at the linkage under the hood. Somewhere along the way there should be a switch, unless someone removed it earlier.
